How students can utilize their summer vacation

Summer is the hottest season of the year however kids enjoy a lot because of the long vacation. It is very interesting and entertaining season for them. They enjoy a long school off during summer vacation. Thoughts of summer vacation may include images of time at the beach or lake, lazy days escaping the heat, and no thought of classes or the stress of the past.
Even though the enjoyment brings lot of pleasure to the students, the vacation is not a time for wasting. Hence students should utilize this time for enjoyment as well as for getting various knowledge by joining in several creativity developing classes. This will bring pleasure as well as good knowledge and skills.

The creativity developing courses are of different types. Some of the courses are, graphics and animation oriented courses, toys and craft working, painting classes, dancing etc. These types of classes during vacation will help the students to refresh their mind in a better way. The students can also involve in playing along with these courses. These courses will not bring any stress on students. Instead it will make their minds happy. This will come handy in the long run.
Some of the things students can take up during the summer vacations are-
Seek your hidden talent: This is the right time to find out what talent lies in you. You might be blessed with a capability of singing well or writing. Find that out if you haven’t. And if you know what you are good at, then fine tune it and become the best you can.
Follow your passion: Each of us like to do something, for instance, there may be some who would want to learn how to play a music instrument or students who have their passion in Sports should take up various sports to maintain their overall growth and mentality. Playing sports teaches life lessons like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, accountability, and teamwork. Students should also read novels, General Knowledge books etc. during their vacation to increase their knowledge and vocabulary. This is the best time to do things you like which will add value to your knowledge.
Learn something new: There are so many exciting things for you to learn, like a new language, a new art form, a new programming language etc. Learn things which will enhance your knowledge while you can. You will always have some experience when you do this and it will make things easier to learn when you come across the same in future.
Learn to discover: Explore the places of significance like a place of historic importance. Or visit the museum just to collect the facts. Or any inspiring place where you can think of new ideas. Perhaps you might get sufficient inspiration to discover or even invent something new!
Make new friends: Find people of similar interests. Share and receive the knowledge. Exchange ideas. Friends are the best aid to put an end to idle mind!
Hence, summer vacation is the most important part of a students’ life to help them grow and develop themselves for a better future.

Ways to Help Your Children Succeed At School

A Child's first and most important teacher is their parents itself. When
parents and families are involved in their children's activities, the
children do better and have better feelings about going to school. There are
many ways that parents can support their children's learning at home and
throughout the school year.

Develop a partnership with your child's teachers and school staff

As soon as the school year starts, try to find a way to meet your child's
teacher. Let the teacher know you want to help your child learn. Try to know
the people at your child's school who are there to help grow your child
learn, grow socially and emotionally and navigate the school environment.

Schools usually have few parent-teacher's meet each year. Parents should
attend the parent-teacher's meet and keep in touch with your child's
teacher.

Support your child academically

Ask the teacher how well your child is doing in class compared to other
students. If your child is having problems with learning, ask the school to
evaluate your child in his or her strongest language. Make sure that your
child gets homework done. Let your child know that you think education is
important and that homework needs to be done each day. If it is difficult
for you to help your child with homework or school projects, see if you can
find someone else who can help or contact the school.

Tests play an important role in determining a student's grade. Parents
should help their child prepare for the test.

Get involved with your child's school

Parents should read the information the school sends home, and ask to
receive information in your native language if necessary. Remember to keep
track of events throughout the school year. Teachers appreciate it when parents
help out at the school!

Support your child's learning at home

Showing our children that we both value education and use it in our daily
lives provides them with powerful models and contributes greatly to their
success in school. Helping your child become a reader is the single most
important thing that you can do to help the child to succeed in school-and
in life. Talking and listening play major roles in children's school
success. It's through hearing parents and family members talk and through
responding to that talk that young children begin to pick up the language
skills they will need if they are to do well. Libraries are places of
learning and discovery for everyone. Encourage your child to use the library
on a daily basis.

Taking responsibility and working independently are important qualities for
school success. Therefore, encourage your child to be responsible and work
independently.

Interactive Counselling Session held on 9th April 2016

“A child educated only at school is an uneducated child”—George Santayana

CounsellingParents and educators are partners in education. When they come together and are inspired to facilitate learning, our children are the winners. With this objective an interactive counselling session with the school authority, students of class-XII, their parents and the PGT teachers was organised in Axel Public School, Lokhra on 9thApril, 2016. The session was meant for formulating and strengthening the education process to the students as it is the most important subject which the educators may be engaged in.

IMG_20160409_100937
The session started at 9 am with the registration of parents and students. The  response was very much appreciable. They were given a warm welcome and the objectives of the interactive session were highlighted.

A valuable and inspirational speech was delivered by Hon’ble Director, Mr. Prasanta Choudhury. He reminded the students about the duties and responsibilities and advised them regarding management of time, which is the need of the hour.
Counselling 1

Separate questionnaires prepared for parents and students were handed out, where they gave their views and suggestions. The questionnaires provided information about parent-child relationship, interests of the students, their strength and weakness and daily schedule.
Leonardo da Vinci had said, “Time stays long enough for those who use it”.
Everybody should value time as it is very precious. A wonderful video on the value of time was played in order to pave the way to success through proper planning and utilisation of time.
The Principal, Mrs Monti Gogoi Choudhury, expressed pleasure and happiness on the co-operation extended by the parents and students. She started the session by mentioning about the bond between parents, students and teachers.
Role played by parents is very vital which the parents agreed to and opined that their role is not to provide education only but to educate their children mentally and spiritually as well. They need to make their children feel secure and loved. It is the parents who mould the child.
School/Educational institution is considered to be the temple of learning. Educators assist the learners in the institute. School does not provide knowledge pertaining to course content only but educators give in their best to inculcate values and ethics from a very young age. Educators will be able to guide well with the co-operation of the students.
Students should realise their roles and responsibilities inside as well as outside the classroom. Their good behaviour inside the classroom will enable them to acquire the knowledge and skills whereas good behaviour outside the classroom will set examples for others.
Parents, students and educators have to overcome various problems. These problems were catered to during the counselling session. A common problem faced by parents is to make their children study as majority of them do not like to study. So parents face a tough time in motivating them to study. Other problems discussed were – management of time, excess use of mobile phones, excess surfing of the net, playing games and unaware of friends.
Students were given the opportunity to share their problems. Most of them face difficulty in managing time for self study. A few students also expressed the need to develop a friendly relation with their parents. Some also queried about the necessity of following rules and regulations in the school.
The teachers also placed the problems they face in the classroom. Some of the problems were irregularity in school, lack of co-operation , concentration, sincerity, hesitation in clearing doubt, inattentiveness in the class, lack of communication with parents.
The counselling session ended on a positive note wherein it was agreed that for the proper progress and development of the students it is very much essential to motivate and appreciate their achievements and effort. The importance of monitoring the activities of the children was discussed. To cope up with today’s competition children were given tips to handle the stress.
At the end parents, teachers and the school management all expressed their willingness to work as a community with the objective of nurturing and moulding future valuable, responsible citizens of tomorrow.

Importance of sports in school

Introduction

In the 21st century, we are well aware that kids these days are more inclined towards computers, video games and television-in short, the virtual world. Unlike older generations, who had valued the importance of nature and the outdoors, kids these days are also burdened with a lot of academic pressure. The result is that, we have inactive kids who grow up to be mostly, unhealthy and unfit.

Therefore, schools in the present time should focus equally on sports and outdoor activities as much as on academics. It is true that not everyone is interested in sports, nor does everyone become a Dhoni or Sania Mirza, but sports have much more to offer than just a career. If children are encouraged to play some kind of outdoor sport in their school, chances are that they are more likely to be active and will stay active for the rest of their life. Sports enhance the physical and social skills of youngsters, besides providing a change from the monotony of their daily life. Also, it is a proven fact that sports enhances the mental and physical growth in children. It helps them in character building and provides them energy and strength. Regular outdoor activities eliminate unhealthy habits of the children and CREATE immunity shields from diseases. Needless to say, when the students are physically fit, they will achieve more academically. Sports develop a sense of friendliness among the children and develop their team spirit.

Benefits of sports

The main objective of sports is mainly to stay fit and encourage leadership, team play and discipline. In today's competitive world student needs to stay fit by involving themselves in various types of sports. These sports help to lower the stress level of students and also help them to focus in their studies. An unhealthy student is always sad, gloomy and therefore loses confidence in him. To keep healthy, one must take an active interest in sports. If one is healthy, then he/she can concentrate in their studies properly without any stress.

Axel Public School brings in various extracurricular activities such as sports, dance, art and drama. We encourage students to take up sports programs seriously. At Axel Public School, students are engaged with various kinds of sports such as hockey, football, cricket, tennis, badminton, swimming etc. - all these and others not only give exercise but also provide a good amount of excitement and entertainment. Besides the competitive element in sports, it also brings in a source of thrills for the mind. We at Axel Public School aims at providing an effective physical education program which would foster a lifetime commitment to physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.

"Sport is healthy” so say yes to sports and have a sporting life!

Micro Teaching and Skills session held at Axel Public School

On 30th March 2016, an interactive session on Micro Teaching and Skills was organized in the school premises for the teachers. Dr Deepak Kumar Pradhan from USTM was the resource person .
It was short but quite interesting and interactive.  I was a little sceptical in the beginning as I found it a bit difficult to understand his pronunciation and way of talking.  But gradually it became more interesting as he knew how to make his class alive and grab the attention and interest of his students.
The teaching techniques and skills he discussed were also quite effective and helpful. I’m glad and happy to say that I have also implemented many of them in my classroom teaching. I believe I can try implementing more to make my teaching more effective and dynamic. It is a challenge sometimes when we are in the real situation but I hope and believe that if we have the willingness,  we can definitely achieve it.

All in all,  I feel it was a very good session, and I hope and believe it would greatly help us in improving and managing our class better.

Saraswati : Goddess of Learning

Goddess Saraswati symbolizes knowledge, art and wisdom. Every year, she is worshipped across the entire Indian subcontinent during the month of Magh. Axel fraternity held a divine Saraswati Puja this year on 13th of February. The whole teaching staff was cleaved into groups. Each group was allocated respective Puja chores. A squad of students also collaborated with them as volunteers. All the duties and responsibilities were successfully effectuated.

Multitudinous parents, relations and friends of the pupils and teachers as well came to seek the blessings of the Goddess. The students, especially of classes tenth and twelfth performed the ritual of Anjali( offertory prayer) as they will be appearing for their Board examinations.

The school arena was filled with young girls and boys draped in Indian traditional attires owing to the age-old custom of Saraswati Puja.

It was out and out a blissful aura. Prasad was dispersed and all savoured it.

Study hard study smart

Every student desires to achieve good academic results, and for that it requires a lot of dedication and hard work. We at Axel Public School take individual care and attention of all our students and guide them to achieve the best academic results. Axel’s In – House Coaching Centre and Career and Guidance Cell prepares the students for their future through tutoring, counselling and internships. However, only mentoring and getting the required study materials is not enough, one must develop good study habits in order to succeed. The sooner you get into a good study habit the chances of securing good marks will improve.

Let’s discuss some of the best study tips for students.

Create your study space

Everyone has your own idea of selecting their own study space. You can study anywhere, but definitely study rooms, libraries and study lounges are obviously the best places for studying. Your study space should be comfortable, quiet and distraction free. So try selecting a good physical environment as a part of your study habits.

Study every day

Studying every day will help you understand your lessons well and will also avoid the stress of last-minute learning. A little bit of study every day will also help you to continually reviewing your lessons in your mind. So, always try to study at least for 3-4 hour every day, depending on your curriculum.

Manage your time

You must always plan your time so that you can make the most of your study time. It is advisable to set alarms about your regular study plans. Stick a wall planner so that you can regularly keep an eye on your exams and assignment due dates. Also stick in your regular study time table and follow accordingly. Before starting your study session always check your study time table and set time for yourself to spend on each subject.

Review and revise your lessons

Reviewing and revising will help you to remember your lessons well. You should make it a point to revise your lessons that you have studied in class at least once a week. Try helping your friends with their lessons, ask questions to your friends, and in this way you can find out what you know and what you still need to learn.

Take breaks in between your study

Studying too long can actually decrease your concentration level, so it is important that you take breaks in between your study time especially when you are tired or frustrated. When taking a break, be sure you get away from your study space or desk. Little bit of walking may help you to relax your mind.

Understand your learning style

Most of us have our own style of learning. Some learn by listening, some by seeing and some by doing the task. If you learn by listening you can record you key points and listen whenever you want. If you are a visual learner then you can make diagrams or can use colours in your notes to help represent the key points. If you learn by doing the task then you can apply methods like building models or role-playing to understand your key point. Therefore it is good to discover your own learning style so that you can learn your best.

If you really want to excel in your academic career then you must not only read but make sure you cultivate good studying habits. Following a proper study method will not only improve your performance but will also increase your learning ability in general.

Wishing you all the best – Axel Public School
